My Dear Fellow Grievers,
I pray this message finds you well.
I wanted to take a moment to share a personal story with you all – one that shook me to my core last week and has ultimately reminded me of the importance of self-care, especially during times of grief.
A week ago last Saturday, I experienced a sudden heart attack. It came as a shock because, like many of us, I thought I was in good health. There were no warning signs or symptoms leading up to it. However, thanks to not delaying in calling 911, I survived and also managed to minimize the damage to my heart.
This has served as a Big Wake-up Call for me. It made me realize how we neglect our own well-being when we're consumed by the tumultuous emotions of grief. We put what energy we have, into everything else but ourselves.
I want to remind you that self-care is not selfish – it's necessary.
So, I urge each of you to make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine, especially during times of grief. I get it, it’s not easy! It can be taking a simple, short walk in nature, watching what you eat, or simply indulging in activities that bring you joy - prioritize what makes you feel good and rejuvenated.
Remember, by taking care of ourselves, we empower ourselves so we can navigate through the challenges of grief with resilience and strength.
To Your Peace,
Alan
