Valentine's Day

Thursday, February 15, 2024

My Dear Fellow Grievers,

As we celebrate love on Valentine's Day this year and we are feeling the loss of our loved ones, let's not forget one of the most important kinds of love - the love we show ourselves. In a world where we often prioritize caring for others, it's crucial to remember to extend that same level of care and affection to ourselves.

In a recent article by Rob Wergin that I stumbled upon, he talked about the essence of self-love. We're all on unique journeys, each with its own set of challenges and triumphs. But amidst it all, here are some simple yet powerful ways we can embark on the path of self-love:

Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer to a friend in need. Speak to yourself gently, especially during tough times.

Cultivate Gratitude for Yourself: Take a moment daily to appreciate your strengths, efforts, and unique qualities. Recognize and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small—they all contribute to who you are.

Set Aside Time for Self-Care: Self-care is a form of self-love. Whether it's a short meditation session, a leisurely walk, or a soothing bath, prioritize activities that rejuvenate your spirit.

Forgive Yourself: We're all human and prone to making mistakes. Forgiving yourself is essential for releasing past regrets and moving forward with a lighter heart.

Protect Your Energy: Be mindful of the environments and people you surround yourself with. Set boundaries that safeguard your well-being and nurture positive energy in your life.

Seek Joy in the Simple Things: Happiness can be found in the little moments—the warmth of sunlight, the laughter of a friend, the tranquility of the morning. Embrace the simple pleasures.

Remember, it's not selfish to prioritize your own well-being. In fact, it's necessary. So, this Valentine's Day, and every day after, let's make a commitment to show ourselves the love and care we deserve.

Wishing you a day filled with love, both from within and from those around you.

To Your Peace,

Alan
